タトゥー入りの外国人の温泉入浴 是非を巡りネットで議論に (2015年8月17日掲載) - ライブドアニュース

Looking at the blogger's opinion:

・"It's not an issue of foreigners or Japanese people. People with tattoos are not allowed to enter the hot spring. Protect the rules!"

・"If it turns into Japanese people being banned and foreigners being okay it will become a mess"

Furthermore, there were a lot of people with with the opinion that Japan's rules should be followed.

Looking at the point of of view of people who have tattoos:

・"Irezumi (Japanese tattoos)* and tattoos are different things. I want it to be understand that [tattoos] are fashion"
*Generally speaking irezumi  have Japanese style themes and motifs, and are typically associated with yakuza. Tattoos are considered to be basically any non-Japanese tattoo, are not associated with the yakuza, and are considered to be for fashion purposes. The two words are often used interchangeably, though some people prefer to differentiate between the two.

・"I only have a small design, but I feel that the rule is too strict"

・"It's hard to draw the line between what is good and what is forbidden. Even if they say it's fashion, there are a lot of [tattoos] with intense art....."

In foreigners' situations, there are also differences in their country's customs and lifestyle,

・"But I understand the part where foreigners insist that it's fashion"
・"I guess I feel sorry for countries with cultures in which tattoos are the standard"

There were such opinions as those, but

・"If you come to Japan you should follow Japan's rules!"

In this situation, the majority of the comments were compromised of that statement.

What does everyone think about "Foreigners entering hot springs with tattoos?"

When in Rome, do as the Romans do

I oppose it
On top of the different language and different race, there are people with tattoos...

It's bad to hold prejudice, but truthfully it bothers me

They spend money and go out of their way to come here but I think that rules are rules after all

Regardless of who it is, if you have tattoos then it's no good.

I think it's fine.
If we're going to do the Olympics then it should be okay.
Our way of thinking has always been old fashioned!

Lately it seems that there has been an increase of hot springs that allow people with tattoos to enter
It appears the the Tokyo Olympic has an influence, but it must be because there are a lot of foreigners with tattoos

You can't get rid of it for the sake of entering a hot spring
I think that can't be helped.

If a bunch of people who look like Mexican prisoners came in it would be scary after all.

I think that Japan is a good place where you can use business establishments without a care
I want this good quality to be protected, so if possible I would like for people who have the possibility of causing psychological oppression to be banned

In Japan there are Japanese rules. I think that even Japanese people follow a country's rules and manners when they go to that country.

It is basically a policy to for the purpose of preventing yakuza from causing damage, so I think that regardless of race it is right to refuse [people with tattoos].
Even if a few are allowed the yakuza will make a big fuss saying "Why are we the only ones not allowed"

'Isn't it okay in this generation?'
I end up thinking.
How long will we cling to past ideas? (´・_・`)

I think that the rules should be changed just a bit with each generation .
